Massive earthquakes struck the southeastern part of Turkey and northern Syria earlier this year. This natural catastrophe resulted in a devastating toll, with over 59,259 fatalities, more than 125,000 injuries, and a total of over 24 million affected individuals. The effects of this earthquake continue to impact the lives of numerous people to this day. For this reason, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, employees of Geistlich from around the world participated in the "move for charity" initiative. The proceeds collected from this internal charitable event, amounting to 16,500 US dollars, will be donated to the Turkish Dental Association. Among other efforts, this organization is establishing mobile dental care stations for the victims of the earthquake that occurred on February 6, 2023. Geistlich will be supporting this crucial work for medical primary care.
Moving for a charitable reason
During "move for charity," employees can walk, cycle, or skate as many kilometers as possible within 24 hours. These distances are then extrapolated using a coefficient. The amount collected is converted into US Dollars and is directed towards a charitable purpose (on foot $5/1 km, by bike $5/4 km). The internationally active family-owned company is organizing this event for the fourth time and supported victims of the Ukraine war last year.
Dr. Andreas Geistlich, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, also actively participated and says: " It's great to see that we at Geistlich live solidarity and stand together to help. I thank our employees for their dedicated participation!"
